Set Free - Emma Slade

Emma Slade's story is truly amazing. After being held at gunpoint whilst on a business trip, Emma changes her whole life and dedicated her life to become a Bhudist Nun.

I remember picking up Set Free in the Travel section at the Charing Cross branch of Foyles. I have recently had a huge desire to travel and I am very interested in Bhudist culture, so it was hardly a surprise that I could not leave this book behind. It takes a lot for me to purchase books on a whim (that to read stack of books on my bedside table keeps on piling up) but I am so glad I took a punt on a book so out of my comfort zone.
Emma's general attitude towards life impressed me from the start of the book to the very end. Her compassion for the man who held her at gun point, dedication to meditation and patience thorough the whole process of becoming a Bhudist nun truly inspired me.
That being said Set Free is not 'preachy' and not solely about religion. Emma speaks openly about her childhood, education and relationships with family members and partners. Emma's honesty her so relatable. I hope that Emma's bravery rubs off on me.
Set Free was a quick, light read that warmed my heart. I thoroughly recommend.
5/5
